Image QR Code Generator

An image QR code opens a picture the moment someone scans it. Upload a photo, print the code on anything, and replace the image whenever you like – the printed code stays exactly the same.

  • Upload PNG, JPEG or WebP images
  • Show the image on its own or on a branded page
  • Swap the picture later without reprinting

How to create an image QR code

Image codes are dynamic, so they live in a free Qdestera account. Signing up takes a minute and needs no credit card.

  1. Upload your picture

Choose Image as the QR type and upload a PNG, JPEG or WebP file. Give the code a clear name so you can find it later among your other codes and folders.

  2. Decide how it opens

Let scanners see the image file directly, or show it on a hosted page with a title, your colors and your logo. Direct is fastest; the page looks more finished.

  3. Design the code

Pick colors or a gradient, one of eight module styles and matching eye shapes. Add your logo and a frame with a short call to action such as “SCAN ME”.

  4. Download and print

Export PNG or JPG for everyday use, SVG or PDF for the print shop. Scan a test print with an iPhone and an Android phone before you order a large run.

What is an image QR code?

An image QR code is a dynamic QR code that points to a picture you uploaded. The pattern itself does not contain the photo – a QR code can only hold a small amount of data. It contains a short link instead, and that link delivers your image to whichever phone scanned it.

Because the link sits in the middle, the picture can change while the print stays the same. Update a product shot, fix a typo on a poster or rotate a seasonal promotion: everyone who scans the old flyer simply sees the new image.

Need several pictures behind one code? An image gallery QR code shows a grid of photos with a full-screen viewer, which suits portfolios and property listings better than a single image.

Where an image QR code earns its place

Use one wherever the printed surface is too small for the picture you want people to see.

Product packaging

Show an assembly diagram, a close-up of the material or a color chart that will never fit on the box.

Property signs

Link a window card or a “for sale” sign to the floor plan, so passers-by see the layout without calling first.

Posters and flyers

Reveal the full artwork, a detailed map or a timetable that would be unreadable at print size.

Cafés and restaurants

Put a photo of today's special on a table card and change it every morning without printing new cards.

Gifts and invitations

Hide a personal photo behind a code on a greeting card, a wedding invitation or a gift tag.

Museums and classrooms

Attach a code to an exhibit label or a worksheet to show a high-resolution detail or an archive photo.

Direct image or hosted page?

You choose per code how the picture is delivered. Both options keep the code editable and counted.

Direct image Hosted page
Opens the image file straight away Yes No
Title above the picture No Yes
Your colors, fonts and logo header No Yes
Extra link buttons and social icons No Yes
Replace the image without reprinting Yes Yes
Scan statistics Yes Yes

Update the picture, keep the printed code

Every image code in Qdestera is a dynamic QR code. The printed pattern holds a short link and the picture lives in your dashboard. Upload a new file and the next scan shows it – on the flyer, the packaging and the sign you printed months ago.

You stay in control of the code's life cycle, too. Set it to inactive to pause it between campaigns, or archive it when a promotion ends, and reactivate it later if you need it again.

Scans are counted from day one. The QR code analytics dashboard shows scans over time, the countries and cities they came from and the operating systems people used, so you can tell which print location actually works.

Storage and file size

Uploaded images count toward your plan's storage, and each upload has a size limit. Large images are fine within your plan's limits, but a web-sized picture opens much faster on mobile data.

Your own domain

On plans that include a custom domain, the short link behind the code can use your own domain instead of ours.

Tips for an image QR code people actually scan

  • Resize before you upload

A photo straight from a camera is usually far larger than a phone screen needs. Export a web-sized copy and it appears almost instantly.

  • Pick the right format

Use JPEG or WebP for photographs and PNG for graphics with text, sharp lines or transparency.

  • Tell people what they will see

“Scan to see the floor plan” earns more scans than a bare code. Put the line in the code's frame or right next to it.

  • Keep contrast high

A dark code on a light background is read by every camera. Adding a brand mark? Our guide to the QR code with logo shows how to keep it readable.

  • Size it for the viewing distance

The print size calculator matches the code size to how far away people will stand.

  • Test before the print run

Scan the proof with at least one iPhone and one Android phone, in the light where the code will hang.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Read our guides or contact us .

How do I turn a picture into a QR code?

Sign up for free, choose the Image QR type, upload your PNG, JPEG or WebP file and download the code. When someone scans it, the picture opens on their phone.

Is the image QR code generator free?

You can create image QR codes on the free plan, and no credit card is needed. How many dynamic codes, how much storage and which QR types you get depends on the plan – see pricing.

Can I change the image after printing?

Yes. Upload a new picture in your dashboard and every printed copy of the code shows it from the next scan.

Which image formats can I upload?

PNG, JPEG and WebP. Use JPEG or WebP for photos and PNG for graphics with text or transparency.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes. Each upload has a size limit and all files count toward your plan's storage. A web-optimized image stays well within it and loads faster on phones.

Can I put several photos behind one QR code?

Yes – use an image gallery QR code. It shows all your photos on one page, and visitors can open each one full screen and swipe through them.

Do people need an app to open an image QR code?

No. The camera app on iPhones and most Android phones reads the code and opens the image in the browser.

Can I see how many people scanned it?

Yes. Every scan is counted, and you can see scans over time, countries, cities and operating systems for each code.

Does an image QR code expire?

No. The code works as long as it is active in your account. You can pause it, archive it or change the picture at any time.
