QR Code for Product Packaging

Print a QR code for product packaging on your box, label or hang tag and send shoppers to a mobile product page with photos, specifications, the price and a buy button. The page stays editable, so the printed code never goes out of date.

  • Hosted product page with up to 8 images and specification tables
  • Price in 45 currencies plus a link to wherever you sell
  • Change the details after printing – no new packaging run

How to create a product QR code

You need a free Qdestera account, because the product page is hosted for you. Everything else takes a few minutes.

  1. Enter the product details

Choose the Product type and fill in the name, a description, the SKU or model code, a price with its currency and the link where people can buy.

  2. Add photos and specifications

Upload up to 8 images. Then group your specifications into small tables, for example Dimensions, Materials and Care, so shoppers find answers without scrolling through one long text.

  3. Brand the page and the code

Set page colors, fonts and a logo header. Give the QR code your colors, your logo and a frame with a short call to action such as “Scan for details”.

  4. Download print-ready files

Export SVG or PDF for your packaging printer and PNG or JPG for mock-ups. Scan a printed proof before you approve the full run.

What a QR code for product packaging does

A box or label only has room for a name, a few icons and the mandatory text. A QR code opens everything that does not fit: detailed specifications, more photos, the model code for support questions and a direct route to buy again. Shoppers scan with the phone camera, with no app to install, and land on a page built for that one product.

A Qdestera product QR code is dynamic. The code holds a short link, while the page itself lives in your dashboard. Price changed, new retailer, typo in the dimensions? Fix it online and every package already on the shelf shows the update. Read how dynamic QR codes work if you are new to the idea.

You may have heard that the retail industry, with GS1 and its Digital Link standard, is moving toward QR codes that could one day also carry product identifiers for checkout. A Qdestera product code is a customer-facing information and sales page, not a replacement for your barcode. Keep the EAN or UPC barcode for the till and use the QR code to tell the product's story.

What shoppers see when they scan

One clean mobile page per product, in your brand's look.

Up to 8 product images

Show the product from every angle, in use and in close-up. Shoppers swipe through the photos and open them full screen.

Price and buy button

Display a price in one of 45 currencies and link the button to your web shop, a marketplace listing or a retailer's page.

Grouped specification tables

Sort details into named groups – size, materials, ingredients, care or technical data – so the page reads like a clear spec sheet.

SKU or model code

Show the product code so customers, resellers and your support team are always talking about the same item.

Your brand, not ours

Choose colors and fonts, add a logo header, link buttons for extra resources and your social media icons.

Always up to date

Edit any field after printing. The QR code on the package stays exactly the same.

Where product QR codes earn their space

Anywhere a product meets a customer and the printed space runs out.

Boxes and labels

Give food, cosmetics, electronics or home goods a second, bigger “label” with photos, specs and a reorder link.

Hang tags and swing tickets

Fashion and furniture brands can show sizes, materials and care instructions without crowding the tag.

Shelf and display cards

Help staff and shoppers compare models in store. See more ideas for retail and packaging.

Catalogs and trade fairs

Print one code per item so buyers can check specs and prices later, on their own phone.

Manuals and spare parts

Put the code on the device itself. For a full instruction booklet, pair it with a PDF QR code.

Product page QR code or a link to your shop?

If your shop page already says everything, a URL QR code may be enough. A product QR code shines when you want a focused page of your own.

Product QR code URL QR code to a shop
Mobile page built for one product Yes No
Works without your own website Yes No
Specs, model code and buy link on one screen Yes No
Change the destination after printing Yes Yes
Scan statistics Yes Yes

Printing a QR code on packaging: what to check

Packaging is printed in large runs, so a few minutes of checking saves a lot of waste.

  • Size it for the distance

Small packs are scanned from close up, shelf displays from further away. Our print size calculator suggests a size for your scanning distance.

  • Keep a quiet zone

Leave a clear margin around the code, free of text, folds, seams and die cuts.

  • Watch curves and finishes

On bottles and cans, use the flattest area. Foil, gloss and metallic inks can reflect light, so test a real proof.

  • Put contrast first

A dark code on a light background scans best. Brand colors are fine as long as the contrast stays strong.

  • Say what the scan gives

A short line such as “Scan for sizes and care tips” tells shoppers why the code is worth a second of their time.

  • Send vector files

SVG or PDF keeps the code sharp at any size and is what most packaging printers prefer.

Why an editable page matters after the print run

Packaging lives a long time. Stock can sit in warehouses and on shelves for months, and a second print run is expensive. With a static code, any change – a new shop address, a corrected dimension, a discontinued accessory – means living with an outdated page or reprinting. With a dynamic product code you simply edit the page.

You also learn how the packaging performs. QR code analytics show scans over time, the countries and cities they come from and the phone operating systems used. That tells you which products, markets and campaigns get people curious enough to scan.

Designing new packaging?

Create the product QR code first, place it on the artwork and keep editing the page until launch day – and after it.

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Read our guides or contact us .

How do I put a QR code on product packaging?

Create a product QR code in Qdestera, fill in the product page, then download the code as SVG or PDF and place it on your packaging artwork. Scan a printed proof before the full run.

Can I change the product page after the packaging is printed?

Yes. The code holds a short link to a hosted page, so you can edit the text, price, images and specifications at any time without reprinting.

Do I need a website to use a product QR code?

No. Qdestera hosts the product page for you. A web shop is only needed if you want the buy button to point to one.

Which currencies can I show?

You can display the price in one of 45 currencies, chosen per product page.

Does every unit get its own unique QR code?

No. A product QR code is meant for a product or model, and the same code is printed on every package of it. It is not a system for tracking individual units.

Can the QR code replace the barcode at checkout?

No. Keep your EAN or UPC barcode for scanning at the till. The Qdestera code is a page for customers, not a point-of-sale identifier.

What file format should I send to my printer?

SVG or PDF. Both are vector formats, so the code stays sharp at any size. PNG and JPG are handy for digital mock-ups.

Is a product QR code free?

Product QR codes are dynamic, so they need an account. You can start on the free plan without a credit card; plan limits apply.

Can I see how many people scan my packaging?

Yes. Scan statistics show how often the code is scanned over time, from which countries and cities, and on which operating systems.
