QR Code Types
Pick the QR code type that matches what people should do after they scan: open a website, join your Wi-Fi, save your contact, read a PDF or browse a menu. Qdestera supports 24 types – seven of them free without an account.

Which QR code types are free?
Seven types work as free static codes in our generator: website link, text, Wi-Fi, WhatsApp, email, SMS and vCard. You get PNG and SVG downloads, no watermark and no expiry date. The generator does not store what you type.
The other types – PDF, image, gallery, video, MP3, coupon, app store, product, event, feedback and the digital menu – open a hosted page or file, so they need a free account. Read our static vs dynamic guide for the details.
How to choose the right QR code type
Answer these questions before you design anything. They take a minute and save a reprint.
-
Start with the action
Decide what the scanner should do next: visit a page, connect, call, save a contact or read a document. The action points to the type.
-
Will the content change?
Prices, passwords, links and files change. If yours might, choose a dynamic QR code so the printed code stays valid.
-
Do you need to measure results?
Only dynamic codes record scans. Pick one if you want to compare posters, flyers or locations.
-
Is there a file to share?
PDFs, images, audio and galleries are hosted for you with the matching dynamic type – no separate file hosting needed.
-
Where will people scan it?
Size the code for the scanning distance. Our print size calculator gives the minimum size.
-
Restaurant or café?
Use the QR code menu instead of a PDF: items, prices, allergens and languages stay editable.
How many QR code types does Qdestera support?
24 types: 17 dynamic types and 7 static types. Several types, such as Wi-Fi, vCard and URL, come in both versions.
Which QR code types can I create without signing up?
Website link, text, Wi-Fi, WhatsApp, email, SMS and vCard. These static codes are free, carry no watermark and never expire.
Can I change a QR code after printing it?
Only if it is dynamic. A dynamic code holds a short link, so you edit the content or destination in your dashboard and the printed code shows the update.
Do static QR codes stop working?
No. The content sits inside the pattern itself, so a static code works as long as its content – for example your website – exists.
Which type should I use to share a PDF?
Use the PDF QR code. You upload the file, the code opens it on the phone, and you can replace the file later without reprinting.
Can I add a logo to any QR code type?
Yes. In your account, the QR code designer adds a logo, frame, gradient and custom colors to the codes you create. See QR codes with a logo.
