QR Code Menu for Restaurants

A QR code menu lets guests scan the code on their table and browse your full menu on their phone – with photos, prices, allergens and descriptions in their own language. Change a price once in your dashboard and every table sees it, without reprinting a single page.

  • No app for guests: the menu opens in the phone's browser
  • 24-language catalog, right-to-left scripts and AI translation suggestions
  • Optional table ordering, waiter calls and a live kitchen screen

How to create a QR code menu in three steps

Most venues already have a menu somewhere – in a PDF, a Word file or an old menu website. Start from what you have and improve it as you go.

  1. Add or import your menu

Type your categories and dishes in the dashboard, or paste your old menu as text and import up to 500 items in one go. In a hurry? Upload your existing PDF menu (up to 20 MB) today and build the full digital version later.

  2. Choose a theme and make it yours

Pick one of five menu themes – Classic, Cards, Gourmet, Bistro or Night – then adjust colors, fonts, corners, layout and currency format. A live phone preview shows every change while you design.

  3. Print your table QR codes

Create all your tables at once, get a separate QR code for each table and print ready-made A4 sheets. Put them on tables, table tents or the counter, and your menu is live.

What is a QR code menu and why do restaurants use one?

A QR code menu – also called a digital menu or contactless menu – is a mobile web page with your dishes, prices and photos. Guests open it by pointing their phone camera at a code on the table. There is nothing to install, no account to create and no PDF to pinch and zoom.

Behind every Qdestera menu sits a dynamic QR code. The printed code holds a short link, not the menu itself, so you can change dishes, prices, photos and serving hours as often as you like. The code on the table stays exactly the same.

That matters most when prices move often. Instead of reprinting menus or taping stickers over old prices, you edit an item once and every table, branch and language shows the new price on the next scan. Sold out? One switch hides the order button for that dish until you turn it back on.

A good digital menu also answers the questions guests usually ask the waiter: what is in this dish, is it vegan, does it contain nuts, how spicy is it? When the answers are on the screen, your team spends less time explaining and more time serving.

Everything your restaurant menu needs, in one place

Qdestera Menu is more than a PDF behind a QR code. Each block below is a feature you switch on when your venue needs it.

Multilingual menu with AI translation

Serve tourists and locals from the same code. Add languages from a 24-language catalog or any language code, and the menu opens in the guest's language automatically. Arabic, Persian, Hebrew and Urdu display right to left. Read more about the multilingual menu.

  • AI translation suggestions (Claude by Anthropic) that you review before saving
  • Guest buttons and labels in 7 languages: Turkish, English, German, French, Spanish, Russian and Arabic
  • Language chosen from the link, a remembered cookie or the phone's browser

Table ordering and waiter calls

With the ordering add-on, guests order from the table or for takeaway, call a waiter, ask for the bill or water and follow their order status – all from the menu page. Your team sees everything on a live board with sound alerts, and the kitchen gets its own screen. See QR code ordering and the waiter call system.

  • Dine-in and takeaway orders with variants, extras and notes
  • One shared table bill when a group orders from several phones
  • Signed webhooks to connect your POS or kitchen system

Happy hour, promo banners and branch prices

Run timed discounts without touching a single price. Set a happy hour by day and time, choose the categories and a discount between 1 and 90 %, and guests see the regular price struck through. Promo banners appear and disappear on the dates you set, and each category can have its own serving hours – even past midnight.

  • Up to 20 happy-hour rules and 10 promo banners per menu
  • Branch-specific prices and stock for venues with several locations
  • Breakfast or late-night categories shown only while you serve them

Allergens and diet tags guests can filter

Mark each dish with the 14 EU allergens and diet tags such as vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, lactose-free, halal or kosher. Guests search by name and filter the menu to what they can eat, so they order with confidence. More on the allergen menu.

  • Spiciness, calories, portion size and preparation time per dish
  • Six badges including New, Chef's pick, Popular and Seasonal
  • One-tap sold-out switch when the kitchen runs out

Menu analytics that show what sells

See how many guests scan your menu, which dishes they open and, with ordering switched on, which ones they actually order. Revenue, average order value and conversion are calculated for you, and an hourly chart shows when orders peak.

  • Views and orders per dish, side by side
  • Orders by hour to plan staff and prep
  • Request types: how often guests call a waiter or ask for the bill

Themes that match your brand

Five ready-made themes cover everything from a quick coffee bar to a fine-dining room. Adjust the color palette, choose from seven font families, round or square the corners, pick a navigation style and set how prices are written. Photos are converted to WebP automatically, so the menu stays quick on mobile data.

  • Classic, Cards, Gourmet, Bistro and Night themes
  • Live phone preview while you design
  • Drag and drop to reorder categories and dishes

Printed menu vs PDF menu vs a digital QR code menu

All three can live on the same table. The difference shows up the day a price changes, a tourist sits down or the kitchen runs out of something.

Start with your PDF, grow into a full digital menu

A PDF menu is the quickest way to get a code on the table, and Qdestera lets you start there: upload the file and the menu QR code opens it. When you are ready, import your old menu as text, add photos and allergens, and switch to the structured menu. The printed codes keep working throughout.

Tables, zones and branches

Create tables in bulk, give each one its own QR code and group them into zones such as Terrace or Garden. If you run several locations, add branches with their own prices and stock while you keep managing one menu.

Your team on the same page

Assign team members to zones so each waiter sees their own tables on the live board. Owners, admins and editors manage the menu with the same roles and invitations they use for everything else in Qdestera.

Guests stay connected

A menu page needs a connection. Put a Wi-Fi QR code next to the menu code so guests with weak mobile data can join your network in one scan.

QR code menus for every kind of venue

The same menu engine adapts to a ten-table café and a hotel with three outlets.

Restaurants

Long menus with photos, set menus with portion sizes, and sides as option groups. Table ordering takes pressure off the floor during the rush.

Cafés and coffee shops

Sizes and milk choices as variants and extras, a clean Cards theme and quick takeaway orders from a code at the counter.

Hotels and resorts

Restaurant, pool-bar and room-service menus in each guest's language, with staff zones for every outlet. See QR codes for hotels.

Bars and pubs

Happy hours that switch on and off by themselves, a Night theme that reads well in dim light and a call button so nobody has to wave.

Bakeries and patisseries

Cakes and pastries that change daily, marked sold out in one tap, with allergen labels for nuts, eggs, gluten and milk.

Chains and multi-branch venues

One menu, several branches: branch-specific prices and stock, branch QR codes and a live board you can filter by branch.

Tips for a QR menu guests actually use

  • Put a code on every table

Guests shouldn't have to hunt for it. Table codes also tell your team exactly which table ordered or called.

  • Say what the code does

A short line such as “Scan for our menu, allergens and ordering” gets more scans than a bare code.

  • Photograph your best sellers

You don't need a photo for every dish. Start with the ones you most want to sell and the ones guests ask about.

  • Write short, honest descriptions

Two lines on ingredients and preparation answer most questions before they reach the waiter.

  • Keep a few printed menus

Some guests prefer paper or have no phone at hand. A couple of printed copies keep everyone welcome.

  • Test on two phones before printing

Scan a table code with an iPhone and an Android phone, switch languages and, if ordering is on, send a test order.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Still have a question? Read our guides or contact us .

How do I create a QR code menu for my restaurant?

Create a Qdestera account, add or import your dishes, choose a theme and print the table QR codes. Guests scan a code and the menu opens in their phone's browser.

Is the QR code menu free?

You can open a Qdestera account for free without a credit card. The digital menu is available as an add-on package or as part of a plan; current prices are on the pricing page.

Do guests need to download an app?

No. The menu is a web page that opens in the phone's browser straight from the camera. Guests don't install anything or create an account.

How do I change prices after printing the QR codes?

Edit the price in your dashboard and save. The QR code only holds a short link, so the printed codes stay the same and guests see the new price on their next scan.

How many languages can my menu have?

Choose from a 24-language catalog or add any standard language code. How many languages you can publish depends on your plan, and AI can suggest the translations for you to review.

Can guests order and pay from the QR menu?

With the ordering add-on, guests order from the table or for takeaway and can request the bill, saying whether they'll pay by cash or card. Payment itself happens with your staff, as it does today.

Can the QR menu connect to my POS system?

Yes, through signed webhooks. New orders, status changes, service requests and closed bills are sent to an address you choose, so your POS provider or developer can pick them up.

Can I use my existing PDF menu?

Yes. Upload a PDF of up to 20 MB to your Qdestera menu and guests can open it from the menu page. You can later import the content and grow it into a full digital menu – the printed menu QR code stays the same.

How do I print QR codes for each table?

Create your tables in bulk in the menu settings. Qdestera generates a separate code for every table and prepares A4 sheets you can print right away.

Can I try a QR menu before signing up?

Yes. Open the live QR menu demo on your phone to see how a sample menu looks and works for guests.
